Achieving Dental Excellence…With A Holistic Touch
Dentures used to be considered something only “old” people needed. You may be surprised to learn that people of all ages and walks of life – famous athletes, politicians, celebrities and everyday people – who have lost too many teeth due to injury or disease have replaced their missing teeth and smiles with dentures or partials.
Removable partial dentures
Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases. Depending on your needs, your dentist will design a partial denture for you. A dental partial may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your teeth, or it can have other connectors that are more natural looking. In some cases, a removable partial denture is made to attach to your natural teeth. Removable partial dentures provide a viable alternative to fixed bridgework or implants as a means of replacing missing teeth.
Over time, adjusting the denture may be necessary. As you age, your mouth naturally changes, which can affect the fit of the denture. Today’s dentures are more natural looking and comfortable than ever.
Dentures vs Partials
- Conventional full dentures are made after all remaining teeth have been removed and the mouth has had time to heal, which can leave you without teeth for several months.
- Immediate full dentures are made the same day the remaining teeth are removed. Because the bone supporting the teeth reshapes as it heals, these dentures will need to be relined in a few months to fit properly long-term.
- Partials replace missing teeth and attach with hooks to your natural teeth, preventing the natural teeth from shifting. Unlike bridges, which are permanently attached to the adjacent teeth, partial dentures are removable.
